Meet Our Founder
Entrepreneur, speaker, author, community activist, and helper to the community are all titles earned, given, and worn humbly by Mr. Howard K. Stevenson III.
Since he was born, Mr.Stevenson has always had to fight through life’s challenges. Growing up in humble beginnings made him even the more want to have a better quality of life. He knew that one vehicle that could help him overcome that which he was born in to would be that of education.
While playing in his 3rd year of collegiate basketball, Howard was having a rough time developing a higher skill set needed to become a basketball player. Amid navigating through that difficult time, he picked up a book called Rich Dad Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki- which changed everything! The moment he finished that book, he stopped playing basketball and dedicated himself to being an innovative entrepreneur. While in college, Howard was a party promoter to some of the biggest hip-hop names that we love today. Howard soon learned that being a party promoter wasn’t something that he wanted to do long-term. He then went on to open a taxicab service that took kids to and from the train station to class. It worked out great due to the lack of transportation in his college community. Before dropping out of college, he taught at two middle schools in Dekalb, Illinois before moving back home with his family to Indianapolis.
In 2016, after a horrible car accident, Howard decided to create and establish Project Free University. PFU has become the #1 financial literacy organization in Marion County that educates underserved and marginalized communities on three foundational pillars- career, finance, and business. These three are used in order to reduce poverty and financial insecurity. His financial literacy courses include the following five modules- Budgeting and Planning, Understanding Credit, Home Ownership, Insurance, and Paying for Higher Education. In addition to PFU educational programs and resources, other products include clothing and coming Winter 2022-the PFU shoe line.
Since the inception of PFU, Howard has helped hundreds of youth start and develop businesses, secure 600 plus business checking and savings accounts, and has awarded over 600 scholarships to the youth, and helped youth scale their businesses digitally (NFTs)
